Great idea Aimee! I SO want to visit your tea house in real life - if only I was rich and could fly to Paris for the weekend....or the whole month Smile

My name is Kat and I'm 32 - damn.... I had to come back because I remembered I'm 33 not 32.... I'm mama to j-dawg (AKA Jake) who is now 9.5 months old. I'm originally from Brisbane Australia, but have been living in Japan for the past SIX years - crazy! I'm married to Darin, who is from Oklahoma in the US and we'll have been married four years this coming December - crazy - where does the time go??!!

I'm a translator by profession and work for a big trading company in Japan. I had six months maternity leave but now wish I had taken a year off (even though that wasn't feasible financially). Darin stays home with J, so I know that he is well taken care of - even though we are all completely worn out. Who knew taking care of such a small human would be so taxing.

I've been blogging for about five years and you can find me at http://www.pinkurocks.com even though I haven't been blogging much of late. I do love to craft especially knitting and making jewellry but haven't been doing much of that lately due to NO time and the heat of summer. I hope to get back into the crafting VERY soon by casting on for a pair of matching mama and baby (or soon to be toddler) socks!! Wish me luck!!

Ok, I'll go next. I'm Pinn Wangsai, 27 years old (for two more days!) and living with my baby girl Mari, and my mother in Bangkok Thailand. I'm married to my baby daddy, Seimi, who is working in Tokyo. I'm a work at home mom exporting fair trade handicrafts from Thailand to Japan.

I knit, crochet, sew, dye, and spin but the last one has been sadly neglected since Mari came along. We have a small bedroom/craftroom and it gets really dusty after I spin which is very bad for baby. I miss it though!

I blog rather infrequently at pinngurl.

Introductions

Post  amylou on Tue Aug 05, 2008 10:58 am

Hi there-

My name is Amy too and I am also originally from Kansas (betcha weren't expecting that!). I am 32 and currently live in Denver, CO with my husband Amiel and 6 wk old baby girl Maggie Jo. We have been traveling around these past few years for his job as a real estate appraiser, and have lived in Las Vegas, San Francisco and just moved to Denver this last October. My husband and I have been married 5 years this year, but have been together for 15! My husband and Kat's husband Darin went to grade school and junior high together in Oklahoma. I like to knit very nonproficiently and mostly seem to hoard yarn. My blog is www.murpmayhem.blogspot.com

My name is Kaitlyn, mother to Maia and Cassidy. Two years and three months, respectively. I am a SAHM with some nonprofit consulting and knitting instruction thrown in. We live in Brooklyn, NY... I've been married for four years and my husband owns Red Bamboo Brooklyn, a vegan/vegetarian restaurant. It makes for an interesting family life, to say the least.

I blog at Sassy Stitchess about knitting and a bit of sewing. And some other stuff. It's a bit unfocused at the moment--a reflection of life!

Hi, I'm pixiepurls aka Brandy. I am about to turn 30 (damn ditto) in December. I have an 11 month old girl and I was able to take a year of leave from my work (wahoooooooo!) and I am going back next month. Sort of freaking out about that. It's been a great year. Loads of "hard" baby times and loads of wonderful time. I do Information Architecture and Usability for a living, which is fancy words for web design. I went to Art School for college. I am married to a computer programmer man, and we live north of Atlanta, Georgia.

I know pinku (kat) from her blog, been reading it for years.

I love how so many of you are international. I've been to Australia several times and Paris once, I hope to go back to both, one day!

Hey - I'm Jenn, mother to 3-year old Lucy and 8-month old Lily. I blog at Peach Tree and go by the username Peachtree on Ravelry.

We lived in Japan for 7 years (Lucy was born in Tokyo) but moved back here to Victoria, British Columbia a year ago. I know Kat from our Stitch n' Bitch knitting group in Tokyo. Now I knit with a group of knitters here called the Bitchy Bees. I recently scored a sewing machine from my DH's grandmother, but have no time to even sit down for a minute to play with the thing Crying or Very sad I look forward to September when Lucy will be in preschool 2 mornings a week.

My DH and I are both complete metalheads. You wouldn't guess it by looking at us though - he's an accountant and I'm your typical housewife/SAHM. We both have our black belts (DH: karate, me: Aikido) and plan to turn our daughters into total toughies before they're old enough to date!

Post  floatingworld on Sun Aug 10, 2008 3:40 am

Hi there,
I'm Suzy - I'm 28, and mama to Alistair who is very nearly 1 (eep! how did that happen!?!)
We live in Sydney, Australia, with my husband Mark. Mark & I were in Tokyo for 3 years, and London for 2 before that, but moved back home last year when I was pregnant. Mark worked crazy hours in Japan, so if Ali had been born there I would have been an almost-sole-parent.
I do graphic design stuff, and have been freelancing 1 day a week for the past few months while Ali stays with my mum, but he is starting daycare 2 days/week from this week, so I'll be back to working 3 days a week. I am going to miss him!!!
I love to sew, knit and screenprint, although time for all of these has been limited in the past year. Unfortunately Ali's not much of a napper. I know Kat via her blog, which was pretty much the first one I ever read and part of the inspiration for me in starting my own - http://www.floatingworldviews.com.

Post  christine c. on Thu Aug 14, 2008 11:34 am

Hi Everyone!

My name is Christine and living in the Bay Area enjoying life with my hubby and 2 year old son, Noah.

Originally from the East Bay, I spent most of my entire life there. My husband and I were on a contract to work overseas in Japan for a few years. After moving back, we've settled down in San Jose, Ca. where we bought a place in a quaint little neighborhood called the Rose Garden. We love it, but we've got a LOT of work to do on the place. I'm currently working full time for a diagnostics/therapeutics company and in my off time, enjoying hanging out with Noah.

Nice to meet everyone!!

Hi there

Post  Momo on Tue Aug 19, 2008 5:19 am

Hi Mama Crafties! I'm Samone and I live in Melbourne, Australia. I'm 32 and mostly earn my pennies writing nowadays, though have worked as a book editor for the past decade, mostly in children's publishing.

I'll have to re-do this very soon to introduce you all to my babies - right now I'm 36 weeks pregnant with twins (boy and girl combo)! Their arrival is imminent, so lots of excitement ahead.

What else? I've lived in Tokyo, London and Singapore and have been married to my boy Tim for almost 10 years. We intended on going back to Las Vegas to renew our wedding vows this new year's eve (in the drive-thru chapel we married in back in 1998), but the pending babies have seriously changed that plan! My forays into crafting are very random, from a bit of knitting here and there and some stitching and embellishing ... I'm not very good at any of it, but very much appreciate other people's talents! I look forward to getting to know you all.

Oh yes, I've been blogging for six years now. You can find me here: www.momofreaksout.com

Another Amy yeah! Welcome! You must also be a child of the 70's, Amy was the "it" name back then I guess.. technically Amylou is just my nickname, my hubby gave it to me forever ago and now that is what everyone calls me!

My name was also an "it" name of the '70s. There are too many Jennifers in my current knitting group to count. I've been dubbed "Tokyo Jenn". At least it's not "Tired-stressed-out-mom Jenn"!

Re: Introduce yourself?

Post  takobell on Fri Aug 22, 2008 1:22 am

Hello all! I'm Kirsten and until just over a month ago, I had been living in Japan for 15 years. With the arrival of our daughter Sienna last December and also my husband Paul being laid-off from his job, however, we decided to move to LA to be closer to my family. Luckily, Paul, who's from the UK, found a job here, which made the move possible. I like to knit and sew, although I haven't done much of the former at all since Sienna's birth and with the warm Southern California weather, there's not much motivation. My sewing machine got left behind in the move, but my mom bought me a new one for my birthday, so I'm looking forward to getting acquainted with it. I'm not great at either knitting or sewing, but I love them both.

I met Kat at the SNB in Tokyo and am so happy that I did!

It's lovely to meet you all!

Hi everyone, I'm Tamar, 30, mama to an amazing, not-so-little-anymore boy. (He'll be one next week!) I'm from Israel originally but now I live in New Jersey, USA. I am working on my Ph.D. (in an obscure corner of medieval studies) and, in my bits of free time here and there, I knit, crochet, sew, quilt, embroider, weave, and dye.

Kat, I've been a lurky pinku reader for a while now and was super excited to see you started a message board! How neat to have an international group of crafty mamas to chat with.

Welcome Samone, Amy, Kirsten and Tamar!!!

This is a lot of fun having a space to 'virtually' hang out with my mama friends. I only wish I could create a little village somewhere where all of my friends live close together then things would be perfect!!!

Let's see... My name is Audrey I live in Bellingham, WA. Like many of you I met Kat at the Tokyo S&B. I used to have a sweet teaching job in Tokyo. Upon my return to the states I found teaching jobs far and few between so I took the natural step, grew a Mohawk and started DJing at local clubs and events. When I'm not up at ungodly hours I'm taking care of baby Olive. 8 months and growing like my own little Godzilla.

Now that Olive is a little more independent I'm picking up my knitting again and have plans for a fleet of baby pants cut from papa's out grown band t-shirts. I am really looking forward to seeing everyone's craft projects. I could really use some pint sized inspiration.
